SHOP TALK | BUILDING THE MOUNTAIN HIPSTER

Check out our latest build - The Mountain Hipster! In keeping with our sustainability goals, we gave new life to a vintage 1994 Diamond Back Ascent mountain bike. Scroll below to see the before & after, as well as learn what we put into this quick turnaround custom build!

The Mountain Hipster started life as a 1994 Diamond Back Ascent mountain bike size small. We first disassembled the bike then modified the frame by grinding smooth the unneeded cable stays to clean up the frame and modernize it.  For this ride, we powder coated it a color called illusion cherry. We built a new wheel set with Surly hubs front and rear used a White Industries high engagement freewheel. We also added Ryno Lite rims with Tannus tube liners (front and rear) with 26 x 2.1 tires.

We changed the headed set from threaded to treadless got rid of the ridged front fork and added a new Rock Shox liner compatible suspension fork with a 100mm of travel. This bike features a Bafang BBSHD motor with a custom high powered tune to run at 1500 watts and 30amps. The battery is a 18 amp hour battery made by Powerful Lithium USA. The custom battery bag utilizes our medium sized 6th generation design. The handle bars are 60mm riser 31.8 handlebars with a 40mm Hussefelt stem. The throttle features a full solar display. Lastly, we used Shimano liner brakes with Puals levers.

Per the rider’s request we used a comfort saddle and added a bell.

THIS IS OUR NEW BLOG SERIES, SHOP TALK.

Here on our blog you can find quick updates from our shop. With bikes coming in and out, we don’t always have time to feature all the bikes. We decided to create a space to highlight some of the awesome rides, that didn’t make it to the studio photoshoots, as well as bikes in progress so you can see the builds start to finish.
